Note: The instructions for Classic Networking/MacTCP have not been
tested by myself, however we have recieved word that it does work. We have
not tried this program with NT Technology, but it should work as well.
1) Download or Buy Dave from Thursby.
2) Install Dave.
3) Reboot if asked.
4a) Open Open Transport and Insert the following.
Connect Via: Ethernet
Config: Manual
IP Address: 192.168.0.2 (or other number)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.0.1
Name Server Address: 192.168.0.1 (and any other IPs for PC's) and (remember
in Chapter 2 for Local Networks fopr Win 9x/Me, the DNS Server Search Order.
Insert those numbers as well).
4b) Make sure Ethernet is selected. Press the More button. Insert the
following...
Obtain Address: Manual
Class: C
Gateway Address: 192.168.0.1
Domain Name Server Information: ( Info from Chapter 2 is the following
Domain: (Insert Host) IP Address: (DNS Server Search Order), keep on doing
this until you have used up all of the DNS#. Now in Domain (keep on adding)
insert Domain:WORKGROUP and IP Address (DNS Server Search Order)
Press OK
Now change the IP Address to 192.168.0.2 (or other number at the end)
5) Save and Close
6) Now go to Apple Menu: Control Panel: NetBios
Insert the following
Name: (whatever you want the name to be, I use Mac 1)
Workgroup: WORKGROUP
Description: (Insert one if you want, I think you should on the MAC's)
7) Save and Close
8) Now go to Apple Menu: Chooser . Picture.
9) Click once on the Dave Client Icon. Picture.
10) Double Click on Entire Network.
11) Click once on WORKGROUP and Press OK.
12) Double Click on Entire Network.
13) Click on the first computer and Press OK.
14) Do this until all computers have been setup.
15) Now click on WORKGROUP or any computer.
16) Press the setup button.
17) Make sure the following have a check mark on it. Ask for volume
name. Browse Services.
18) Press OK
19) Close Chooser
20) Open Dave. It is located at Apple Menu: Dave
21) If you receive an error, go to the Dave Tech Area to find out how
to correct any errors. If you don't have an error, continue.
22) Click on File: Browse: Your Workgroup
23) All the computers on the network should be shown.
24) On the PCs make a new Folder on your desktop.
25) Name it Network Neighborhood. Make links to each computer or only
to the Macs. This is done because, for some unknown reason (Thursby says
this as well), Windows doesn't always show the Mac in the Network Neighborhood.
If you make a link to the computer, though, it will allow you to still
access it.
