CHAPTER 1 - SETTING UP THE PC MAIN FRAME

1) Right Click on Network Neighborhood. Picture.

2) You should now be at your Network Config screen. Picture.

3) Make sure that Primary Network Login is set to 'Client for Microsoft Networks'

4) Now click on the Identification Tab

5) Note: If you are using a non-dialup internet connection you can skip this step! Do not change your computer name! If you are a modem user, you can change your computer name. This can be done as anything you wish. For us, we will call this computer PC1 (as that is what I refer my computers as (although I use a cable modem so I skip this step for this type of machine)).

6) In your workgroup part, insert 'WORKGROUP'. If there is already text in there delete it, UNLESS you already have your server a-go.

7) Insert a description of your computer. E.G. Randy's Computer or PC1

8) Click the Access control. Make sure Share level access control is enabled!

9) Now here comes the tricky part so try to stick with me. Go to your ethernet cards TCP/IP and click twice on it. The first tap that should be open is IP Address. Click on Specify an IP address. IP Address = 192.168.0.1   Subnet Mask = 255.255.255.0   .

10) Click on the WINS Config tab. Make sure Disable WINS is checked.

11) Click on the Bindings Tab. Check all of the options that you wish. I recommend all of them!

9) Press OK. Now in the main frame of Network press OK again.  If you are asked to insert your Windows CD and/or restart your computer say yes or insert the CD and follow the instructions!
